Princess Diana...?

Comforting AIDS victims, cradling abused and traumatized children and working on projects to build shelters for the homeless… one could be forgiven for thinking one was reading about the legacy of Princess Diana. But no, these were photographs and deeds of Prince Harry still a young man - in this day and age- at 20 years old but seemingly with a wise old head on those young shoulders.

"I always wanted to go to an AIDS country to carry on my mother's legacy as much as I can. I don't want to take over from her because I never will. I don't think anyone can..." Prince Harry said in a documentary broadcast last week on British television titled “The Forgotten Kingdom”.

Thinking back to those days when the Princess would pop her head into the kitchen and say “Early dinner tonight please Darren, I am going to show the boys what goes on in the real world” … and an hour later, unannounced, the Princess with William and Harry would turn up at homeless shelters or visiting the sick and less fortunate. They would return to their Palace well into the dark hours with both boys a little older and a little wiser.

“I believe I've got a lot of my mother in me, basically, and I think she'd want us to do this, me and my brother. I want to try and carry on to make her proud”, he went on to say.

Well as someone who knew her well during the last four years of her life I can tell you Sir that you would make her proud. Proud that the loveable little “rogue” she adored, nurtured and worshipped has turned into a fine young man.

Affairs Around Town…

For those of you in the Dallas Fort Worth area who would like to have me cook dinner for you and donate money to a wonderful charity at the same time, then here is your chance.

On October 23 I will be in Irving cooking dinner for the first 30 people that sign up. After the dinner “in the Royal Style” I will share stories of my 15 years with the Royal family.

Affairs Around Town is a fun-filled series of themed parties hosted in private homes or at selected venues. Proceeds from ticket sales to each party benefit Our Children's Center at Irving.

These dollars are used to meet the greatest needs at OCCI, including the purchase of equipment, the provision of financial aid to needy families, and the enhancement of the facility. Shooting William and Harry...

It’s no surprise to me that Prince Harry has decided to join the Army. Right from an early age he had a fascination for guns – play ones of course. I remember one Christmas at Sandringham both he and William were racing around the house in combat gear with their new water guns.

After a couple of “attack missions” on the Royal Kitchen several of the Chefs spent their afternoon break in nearby Kings Lynn shopping for the biggest water guns they could find. It was a pretty dark winter’s night as three figures trudged across the yard back to work with “replica AK-47 water guns” in attack position and ready for battle.

Unfortunately, in the excitement, we hadn’t bargained on the boys’ frontline protection – several police officers came out of nowhere with real guns and not water for bullets. We never did get to “fire” at the boys and escaped with just a reprimand. In hindsight, I suppose we were lucky to still be alive.

Grapevine Grapefest...

We had a blast at this years Grape fest in the Gaylord Culinary Arena. Sponsored by Market Street and with the most amazing back up team one could ever wish for I demonstrated and sampled 12 different dishes over four demonstrations.

I have to say a HUGE thank you to Liz Perschon and her team, I just couldn’t have done it without their support.

With over 240,000 people in attendance we also got the word out about “the Pink Ribbons Crusade – A Date With Diana” too. Hopefully many of them will go and see the exhibit at Precious Moments Park in Carthage, Missouri before it closes in December.
