The Memorial Fountain
July 2004 and we finally have a memorial to “the Boss.” It was unveiled on July 6 by H.M. the Queen. She had the support (as always) of the Duke of Edinburgh. The Spencer family, Prince Charles and the boys were there too.
Aren’t those boys so grown up now? It seems light years since William and Harry were running around the long corridors at Kensington Palace, building rockets and generally just “being kids.”
I would love to have been there but in typical “gray suit” fashion (as the Princess would call it). The people making the list just had no idea who should really be there -- no friends or personal staff in sight and nobody that really knew her apart from her family. But the fountain is more about what someone else thought she would want and not what she herself would want. So ironically, like her life really.
Whilst on the subject of irony, am i the only one that looks at the “fountain” and sees a moat? A moat with the castle removed from the center. The Royal part taken away… like the title H.R.H. You see, without the castle, it is “just a moat” and without the title……….
Isn’t it also ironic that it had “broken down” just after the big Royal occasion? …for occasion read “wedding.”

Pastries fit for a Queen!
I am going to be at Market Street Culinary school in Colleyville, Texas on September 25 and at the McKinney, Texas store on September 26th demonstrating pastries ready for you to gear up for the holidays. I know it seems weird talking holidays while it is still 100 degrees outside (well it is here in Dallas), but the classes are limited and quickly book up.
For a full list of “what’s cookin” at my demonstration, the times and how to get tickets, click on the Market Street link on the links page or call (817) 577-5047.

Dean Fearing and Gourmet Magazines BBQ Bash
I was fortunate enough to be invited along to Dean’s BBQ Bash on Saturday night (July 10). I say fortunate because the tickets were $150 each. The event, now in its fourth year, was my first and having witnessed it would willingly pay to go next year. Not only does the money go to such a good cause (Proceeds from the event benefit TACA, an umbrella organization that provides funding for performing arts in North Texas), but the food was incredible.
The visiting chefs, Norman Van Aken, Robert Del Grande and Tim Keating, to name but a few, produced food worthy of Michelin stars. Bobby Flay was on hand, too, as was Al Roker, who emceed the charity auction. The next event is July 9 2005, and already marked in my diary …even if I have to buy a ticket!

26 July 2004 - Update...
I planned on adding new bits to my web site on a monthly basis through this newsletter. Monthly, because updating the site takes a lot of time which I am eternally grateful to Chris McGrady (my brother and webmaster) for doing. It is with this in mind that I reluctantly asked him to refute an article in one of this weekend’s British Sunday tabloids.
The reporter contacted me excitedly wanting to know about the cookbook I was writing. I could tell from his questioning that he already had an agenda and despite our 20 minute chat chose to stick with it and of course preferred to leave out the part about it benefiting the breast cancer charity. His analogy of my sharing a stuffed aubergine recipe along with the butler telling the world that the boys’ mother thought their father wanted her killed is downright ludicrous.
So, for the record…I have not and will not EVER talk about the Princess’s eating disorder.
